Tim Swanson joined Compass Financial Partners in April 2018 as the firm’s Chief Investment Officer, with accountability for all investment policies and activities. He brings 25 years of investment experience obtained while working for Wachovia in North Carolina, and National City and KeyBank in Cleveland, Ohio. At Wachovia, he personally managed quantitative, indexed, and domestic and emerging market active equity strategies before rising to the Head of Equities position, overseeing a staff of 42 with responsibility for $20 Billion in equity investments. At National City, Tim served as the Chief Investment Officer for the firm’s Private Client Group, with full accountability for the firm’s $26 Billion in assets under management. He also served as President, CEO, and Trustee of the Allegiant Funds, National City’s mutual fund family. For a portion of his time at KeyBank, Tim served as the Executive Vice President and Segment Head for Key Private Bank, overseeing the firm’s wealth management and institutional asset services businesses with $300 million in revenue and total personnel of 700. During the balance of his time at Key, Tim served as Chief Investment Officer of Key Private Bank and Institutional Asset Services, with accountability for all aspects of the firm’s $37 Billion in assets under management, including investment strategy, research, portfolio management, and manager due diligence. While at KeyBank, Tim also served as Chair of the Trust Oversight Committee, with responsibility for Key’s pension and 401k assets.

Tim received a Bachelor’s Degree from Wake Forest University, graduating summa cum laude with honors in mathematical economics. He obtained a Master’s Degree in Economics from the University of Rochester, with concentrations in finance and game theory. Tim completed executive development programs at Wachovia and National City. He holds the Chartered Financial Analyst designation and is a member of the CFA Institute.

Born and raised in the Triad area of North Carolina, Tim and his wife Anne recently returned to the area after spending 14 years in Cleveland, Ohio, where they raised their two daughters, Claire and Martha. While living in Cleveland, Tim served two terms on the board of directors at Holden Arboretum, and two terms as a director at Bay Presbyterian Church, where he served as the organization’s President. When not working, you will likely find Tim on a golf course, going on long walks with Anne, or volunteering at Mercy Hill Church, where he and Anne are active members.
